Community Information Seminars & Workshops

Catch the wind of change

In May 2013, we successfully applied for a grant from the NSW Government’s Office of Environment and Heritage to help overcome obstacles and generate opportunities for community renewable energy in New South Wales.

Talking openly and frankly with regional communities, we seek assistance from community groups, businesses and individuals prepared to help us inform the broader population, who need facts to consider. We’re looking to achieve a more widespread understanding of the proven benefits of communities owning and generating renewable energy.

We need community leaders to promote facts, not propaganda. We aim to expose misinformation to dispel myths, and educate to build a positive community response through a series of regional seminars.

These seminars clearly communicate the social, economic, and personal financial benefits of an investment supporting the effort to meet our ongoing energy needs sustainably and cost effectively.

So far, we have visited Bathurst, Orange, Cowra, Parkes, Forbes, Millthorpe, Springwood and Lawson. The series of seminars has attracted 120 participants. Informal interviews with attendees indicate the information is well received and relevant.

  • 3 out of 5 returned written feedback, of these
  • 4 out of 5 committed to receiving more information
  • 2 out of 3 agreed to help disseminate information
  • Nearly half noted they are “Ready to participate” assisting the transition away from fossil fuel generated electricity
  • One third feel “Better informed”
  • One fifth are “Hungry for more” information
